I was born in Washington, D.C. in 1947, the third of three children. I went to St. Albans School, where one of my classmates was Al Gore. Both my parents were from Texas and they were very active in the Washington social scene. My father, Dale, was a well known lobbyist in Washington and my mother, Scooter, was a huge part of his success. I still have many friends from these early years. Mead Reading
I entered Tulane University in 1965 and fell in love with the Gulf Coast. I earned a Bachelor's in Art History and enjoyed Tulane's well deserved reputation as a party school. I became a pretty good blues harmonica player (see picture below with my brother).
Mead and Dale I received a Masters degree from The University of Texas in film making.
